<td><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:13px;color:#000000">At Islamic Relief USA, we are dedicated to alleviating poverty worldwide, but for us, work always begins here at home, in the <a href="http://islamicreliefusa.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c5aaccd4bd5fa5dc994fa55ab&id=3f66873f17&e=8497fa538e" target="_blank">United States</a>. <p>
Nearly 50 million Americans—including almost 17 million children—live in poverty, and that number is rising. According to the U.S. Census Bureau figures, the number of Americans living in poverty rose by 3.8 million between 2008 and 2009. </p>
<p>Each year, Islamic Relief USA's <a href="http://islamicreliefusa.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c5aaccd4bd5fa5dc994fa55ab&id=c0fc0ed5d6&e=8497fa538e" target="_blank">Day of Dignity</a> project provides our fellow Americans in need with on-site meals, canned goods, clothing, school supplies, medical care, physical exams, dental care, first aid, job training, and many other social services to all who attend.</p>
<p>In 2010, <a href="http://islamicreliefusa.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c5aaccd4bd5fa5dc994fa55ab&id=9750138cd7&e=8497fa538e" target="_blank">Day of Dignity</a> recruited over 2,000 volunteers to serve over 20,000 people throughout the U.S. This year Islamic Relief USA will be supporting <a href="http://islamicreliefusa.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c5aaccd4bd5fa5dc994fa55ab&id=b3f59af9bd&e=8497fa538e" target="_blank">Day of Dignity</a> sites in 15 locations, including major cities like Detroit, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Seattle, Atlanta, New York, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. </p>
<p>With <a href="http://islamicreliefusa.us1.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=c5aaccd4bd5fa5dc994fa55ab&id=6220498709&e=8497fa538e" target="_blank">Day of Dignity</a>, our goal is to create an opportunity for caring individuals from diverse communities to help their neighbors in need. </p>

Since August, monsoon rains poured over <a href="http://islamicreliefusa.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c5aaccd4bd5fa5dc994fa55ab&id=d672d106a9&e=8497fa538e" target="_blank">Pakistan's</a> most populated provinces, affecting more than 7.5 million people already, leaving more than 1 million homes damaged or destroyed, and forcing nearly half a million people into refugee camps. Over 340 deaths have been reported since rains began. Livestock and food crops have been destroyed. <p>
Just last year, these same areas were devastated when monsoon rains drowned people, homes, land and livestock for days. And the devastation has continued. Over 800,000 families were still homeless from the previous floods when monsoon rains began again this year. </p>
<p>Islamic Relief USA's donors sent lifesaving aid to the Sindh, KPK and Punjab provinces, helping half a million people since 2010. Islamic Relief USA's humanitarian efforts are continuing to help those affected by <a href="http://islamicreliefusa.us1.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=c5aaccd4bd5fa5dc994fa55ab&id=023bf5d2dd&e=8497fa538e" target="_blank">flooding in Pakistan</a>. Islamic Relief Pakistan offices are currently delivering aid including:
</p><ul><li>Providing assistance to medical facilities near refugee camps
</li><li>Installing water tanks to provide immediate access to clean water
</li><li>Preparing a water treatment plant
</li><li>Registering homeless families and pitching tents to provide shelter away from flood waters</li></ul>
