Hello everyone!

It is with great excitement that I get to send out my first email to all of you as the new VP of SDS! I'm equally excited to be serving on Eboard for the upcoming year - even with the Coronavirus still wreaking havoc, I think we will have a great year ahead of us! Also, I'd like to give a shout-out to Abby Hulse, our now-former VP (😢) for all her hard work serving in this position over the past year, as well as congratulate her and the rest of our graduating seniors!

Now onto the business end of things! Our wonderful Choir & Shakespeare Director Bethany Reeves wanted to share some Shakespeare and classical theatre projects currently being shown on TV or streamed online. Apologies for those who have already received this email directly, but if you're looking for something fun to watch, you might find it here! (Being a huge Benedict Cumberbatch fan, I'm probably gonna check out the Frankenstein production)

Hope you are all doing well and staying safe, I miss you all so much! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the Eboard at sds at stevens.edu or to me personally at cbeall at stevens.edu. Even if things are still tough, I'm confident that the 2020-2021 year is gonna be a great one for us!

All the best,
-Charlie

Dear Shakespeareans!

I hope you already know about these things, but just in case - PBS, Britain's National Theatre, AND Shakespeare's Globe are streaming productions on YouTube for free. The last two each stream shows for a week or two, and then change to another. There are probably other things out there as well (if you haven't yet seen "The Ladies Who Lunch" from the 90th Birthday celebration for Stephen Sondheim, LOOK IT UP. YouTube).

Through this Sunday (I think they quit streaming around 7pm London time):
SHAKESPEARE'S GLOBE: Romeo & Juliet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSAlPJ0FG_0&t=3440s<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DeSAlPJ0FG_0%26t%3D3440s&data=02%7C01%7Ccbeall%40stevens.edu%7Cb73405a76a544b54ea3e08d7eecc25cc%7C8d1a69ec03b54345ae21dad112f5fb4f%7C0%7C0%7C637240432886325402&sdata=Bk6Y70Di8puM%2F08%2B16G4w2T0doM8RBL%2BA%2FfDW3W94hE%3D&reserved=0>
I'm about halfway through, and can say this is very worth watching. Everyone is good, and some are real standouts, including Mercutio. It's also just great to see Elizabethan-style productions in that Elizabethan-style theatre - you can get a clear sense of the actor-audience relationship these plays were written for, and how it shapes acting style and choices.

Next up at the Globe: the partially-Shakespeare play Two Noble Kinsmen. Starts Monday.

NATIONAL THEATRE:
Frankenstein - with Benedict Cumberbatch & Johnny Lee Miller trading off roles
Through May 8, 7pm UK time
Antony & Cleopatra - Shakespeare
May 7-14

PBS: GREAT PERFORMANCES -
There are several fine shows streaming from this site for free, including Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, and a superb production of Noel Coward's Present Laughter.

I hope you're all doing ok. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need something or just need to vent. Shoot me an email; we can set up a call.

Best,
