REMINDER: The deadline for proposal submissions is on July 8, 2014.

Join us with by submitting your breakthrough engineering design concepts
for a new generation of ultra-low-energy-use appliances/equipment that are
built by the next generation of energy minded engineers!

Help us make a difference: http://maxtechandbeyond.lbl.gov/

Questions: see the FAQ section on the website About page and/or send them
to us: swells at lbl.gov, maxtech at dante.lbl.gov

Summary:
•For academic year 2014-2015
•Faculty-led student teams
•Funding up to $25k per team
•Minimum of 3 undergraduate and/or graduate students
•Managed by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
•Funded by the Department of Energy

Design. Build. Test. Analyze. Present.
•Proposals must demonstrate the potential for a significant reduction (5%
or greater) reduction in energy consumption over best-on-market products
or a significant reduction (20% or greater) in the production cost of
most-efficient-on-market products that have large national energy savings
potential. The proposal must clearly describe to which best-on-market
products the prototype would be compared.

•The targeted market segments for new prototype development are stationary
appliances and equipment that typically consume energy in and around
residential and commercial buildings. Proposals cannot focus on mobile
sources of energy consumption (transportation), building design, or energy
generation. However they can incorporate building-integrated design and
integrated renewables (e.g. solar assist). Prototypes are encouraged that
combine all best design practices, that hybridize end-uses, and that
explore new technology innovations.

website Apply page.

ANNOUNCEMENT: FUNDING OPPORTUNITY FOR *FACULTY-LED* STUDENT ENGINEERING
DESIGN TEAMS FOR THE 2014/2015 ACADEMIC YEAR.

Subject: *Request for Proposal (RFP) No. SW051914*

*Proposal Due Date: **July 7, 2014*

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s (LBNL’s) Energy Efficiency
Standards Group, with support from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE),
Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Building Technologies
Program, is pleased to announce the third year of the Max Tech and Beyond
Design Competition for Ultra-Low-Energy-Use Appliances and Equipment. The
goals of the competition are to drive energy efficiency innovation in
appliances and equipment used in and around U.S. buildings and to support
the development of the next generation of appliance and equipment design
engineers who consider ultra-efficiency a foundational design principle.
Accordingly, the competition supports student design teams at U.S.
universities to develop and test prototypes with large energy savings
potential, and to greatly reduce the cost of existing ultra-efficient
designs.

In the interest of developing a broad portfolio for the Academic Year
2014-2015 Design Competition we are looking for strong proposals in a wide
array of energy end-uses (residential or commercial). For more
information,
visit the Competitions Website (http://maxtechandbeyond.lbl.gov/) and
review the attached Announcement and Request for Proposal (RFP).

Please distribute this RFP to all Colleges and Departments who may have an
interest at your University. This would include, but not limited to, the
Dean's, Chair's, Faculty, and Program Leads in Engineering, Physics,
Technology and Innovation Colleges/Institutes, and Energy/Efficiency
Centers/Programs. Students are also welcome to apply if under the
direction
of an active Faculty member.

We welcome and encourage proposals from previous faculty that have applied
in the past (and were not selected or for different projects), more than
one proposal per department or university, and interdisciplinary
proposals.
You are also welcome to share this with other Universities.

Please note, all proposals must go through your Research Administration
Office (E.g. Office of Sponsored Projects, Office of Contracts and Grants,
etc.) for approval and final proposal submission to LBNL.

*Please note the following Deadlines:*

*Questions should be submitted by email to the LBNL Procurement
Representative, on or Before June 23, 2014*

* Shanna Wells **swells at lbl.gov* <swells at lbl.gov> and cc.
*maxtech at dante.lbl.gov* <maxtech at dante.lbl.gov>.

Answers to questions that are germane to the interpretation of LBNL’s
requirements will be posted on the Max Tech Website under the FAQ section
here: http://maxtechandbeyond.lbl.gov/about ensuring that the identity of
all Offerors will remain anonymous.

* The Proposal template must be used and all supporting documents must be
submitted for acceptance. *

*Proposals may be submitted early, and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
*

*GET YOUR PROPOSALS IN EARLY!*

LBNL is looking forward to receipt of your proposal and any questions you
may have.

Kind Regards,

Shanna Wells
