Dear all,
I am member of the new editorial team of the Design and Culture journal,
and enthusiastic subscriber to the maintainers list. I am writing to share
our editorial vision with you, and to invite you to submit papers and/or
special issue proposals for consideration by our journal. You can submit
your paper through the journal’s website http://designandculture.org/ or
contact me directly about special issues at Jt.designculture at gmail.com
<Jtdesignculture at gmail.com>

I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Best regards,

Jilly Traganou

Editorial vision
As a new editorial team, our vision for Design and Culture is both to
reflect the state of scholarship in the field and to nurture new or
overlooked lines of inquiry that would redefine our understanding of
design. We invite design scholars and practitioners to think critically
about social justice, exclusion, and privilege, and imagine the journal as
a forum that can foster rich and provocative conversations across
power-differentiated communities, geographic distance, and disciplinary
divides. We strongly encourage the submission of rigorously researched
papers that show how design is deeply engaged with socio-political and
cultural issues, and we encourage submissions about the scope of design,
broadly defined, in regions marked by conditions of austerity, poverty, or
under embargo, papers on maintenance and repair, and works on the invisible
labor of design in domains of social reproduction. We also welcome
scholarship from affiliated fields that—although perhaps not identifying
directly with design discourse— investigate material culture and practices
and the science/status of the artificial through the lenses of indigenous
studies, radical feminism, critical ethnic studies, labor studies,
artificial intelligence, cognitive or environmental psychology, science and
technology studies, among others. As design increasingly extends its
immaterial, conceptual, and strategic forms, we envision Design and Culture as
a platform where scholars and practitioners from a range of fields can
question the ramparts of design practice, research, and discourse. Besides
scholarly papers and reviews, we also encourage the submission of
interviews, round table conversations and statements of/on practice.
