Busoni’s powerful transcription of J.S. Bach’s Chaconne is a grand opening
to this not-to-be-missed season finale. Haydn’s Symphony No. 99 gives voice
to the spirited creativity of a composer at the prime of his genius.
Shostakovich’s stunning Symphony No. 5, a vast and ambitious work which
depicts the political climate of Soviet Russia, cries out in blissful
exuberance in the face of political oppression.
