I don't know if that's related to what you're experiencing, but please
make sure that you use "lab.cs.stevens.edu", not
"linux-lab.cs.stevens.edu".  The former gets actually balanced across
the nodes, so unless all are down you should be able to log in -- the
latter is just a DNS round-robin.
