Hey Mark,

In order to use the device it needs to be partitioned, file system type
created, and mounted to a directory. When you attach the volume to the
second instance, you should be able to mount the same partition onto a
directory and access the file.

You shouldn't be able to write a file directly to a block level device, as
far as I know. Let me know if you need a further explanation.

Hello again,

I have now been able to create a new file. However, when I go to see if it
is there, I do not know where to look as the created volume is a block
device, i do not know how or if I can get into it. That being said, when I
attach the volume to the second instance, I am unaware of how to retrieve
the file. Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks, mark

What OS are you using? You might need to use "sudo" if you're not able to
log in as root.

Hello all-

I am having an issue in HW2 and am looking to see if anyone has had this
issue or has a resolution.

I have created and attached a volume to one of my instances as well as
created a new file system and have mounted it. My problem arises as I
attempt to create a file on this file system. I have been attempting to
'touch' a newfile but keep receiving messages saying that permission is
denied. Any thoughts as to why this may be occurring?

Thanks,

Mark Wilson
