Hello!

Welcome to the official start of CS631 Advanced Programming in the UNIX
Environment. Tonight will be our first class. If you would like to get
a head start, you can:

- read chanters 1 and 2 in the W. Richard Stevens / Stephen A. Rago
book (from now on referred to as "Stevens")

- ensure / verify that you have an account on linux-lab.cs.stevens.edu:
  https://www.srcit.stevens.edu/wiki/index.php/Linux_Lab

- run the "intro" assignment:
  http://www.cs.stevens.edu/~jschauma/631A/f13-intro.html

- join the class IRC chatroom (#cs631apue on Freenode), using your
preferred IRC client or via the web interface at
  https://webchat.freenode.net/

- review tonight's lecture notes and code examples, linked to from the
course website; the website has last semester's materials, so don't be
surprised if the slides actually shown in class change a little bit

See you tonight, 18:15 EDT, Lieb 120.

-Jan
