[cs631apue] pkgin Question

I followed your instructions to a tee, and even when I was getting the error during installation I stopped the installation, deleted the vm instance I was in the process of creating completely and repeated the instructions multiple times and still received the same error so at that point I just continued with the install without pkgin installed because I needed to start the work required for the class. Should I try installing NetBSD on a different computer and see if it is just the computer I am using?

Ok, so that works.

You should be able to fetch the package then via

ftp ${PKG_PATH}/pkgin-0.12.0.tgz

and the you can manually install it via

pkg_add ./pkgin-0.12.0.tgz

I don't understand why this error occurs on your
system. If you followed the installation instructions
I provided, this shouldn't happen and the package
installation should have worked.

You can of course download the binary package from
anywhere and copy it to your VM and try to install it
from there, but if the simple package addition doesn't
work, then chances are there's some other problem
that'll eventually come back to cause more issues.
