Hi Everyone,
The first SHPC meeting of the semester will be this coming tuesday
(2/16/2010). Look forward to a CPR class signup and an AFROTC pitch.
SHPC will also be beginning its annual push to get students involved in
research. Dr. Leopold, the CCBBME department head at Stevens with
experience as part of the admissions process at Weill Cornell Medical
College will be joining us to give a short presentation on the
importance of pursuing research as a premed when applying to medical
school, and talking about research opportunities at the close by
Hackensack hospital. It is also possible that some professor will be
coming to present their research and recruit interested students. An
application is attached, you may email that to the professor(s) of your
choice.
We are also beginning another round of the ME Program, and will be
accepting applications from interested students. The Medical Experience
Program is a fledgling program developed at SHPC that places students in
the Hoboken University Medical Center as ER volunteers and allows them
to enter the surgical rooms to observe surgeries. This year we are also
easing the restrictions on the program, and will be looking at all years
for interested students. You can find the application attached. The
GPA part is optional.
See you there,
Mitchell Izower
SHPC President
