[Themaintainers] SIGCIS CFP on "Infrastructure" (aka Maintenance)

Thanks Lee for forwarding the CFP. Lee’s right that we would be very happy to receive Maintainers-inflected individual paper or panel proposals for the SIGCIS workshop. In addition to the history of computing (broadly conceived), SIGCIS also covers information history (broadly conceived). In other words, even if your proposal isn’t connected to “computing” per se, you might emphasize your topic's connection with “information.” For one useful description of the scope of the "history of information," see http://www.infoculturejournal.org/about.

Of course, I’m happy to answer any questions!

Andy

Dear Maintainers,

(Apologies if you already got this in a separate email from me.)

I wanted you to know that the largest special interest group in SHOT, SIGCIS, has put out a call for papers on the theme of "Infrastructure." The papers will be presented on the Sunday of the SHOT meeting in Albuquerque. This is, in part, an attempt to get the Maintainers discussion going, even in the face of our panels not being accepted. (Andy Russell, who came up with the maintainers parody title of Isaacson's Innovators book, is the head of SIGCIS.)

For those of you who don't know much about SHOT, it contains a number of special interest groups, in which individuals focus on a theme (engineering history, women in the history of technology, etc.). SIGCIS is dedicated to the history of computing, digital technologies, and the like. So, if your Maintainers paper was even remotely connected to the history of computing, it might make a good candidate for SIGCIS's Infrastructure themed panels.

Best,

Lee
