Dear Maintainers,

Andy Russell and I have an exciting announcement to make: The digital
magazine Aeon, where Andy and I published our Maintainers essay
<https://aeon.co/essays/innovation-is-overvalued-maintenance-often-matters-more>,
has asked us to join their new partners program. What this means is that
The Maintainers will have dedicated page on Aeon, which Andy and I will
curate. The page will go live on or around June 1.

What we are looking for now are what Aeon calls Opinion pieces: brief
essays of no more than 1000 words. (I have copied a few random selections
below but more can be found at the Aeon page.) If you have an idea for a
essay that connects to the Maintainers theme and might be of interest to
non-specialists (e.g. an educated general public), we'd love to hear it.
Please email us. Don't hesitate to fire half baked ideas at us.

Among other benefits, Aeon gives us the chance to get a wide readership. As
of yesterday, our Maintainers essay has been read by 75,000 people. Another
Aeon essay we were discussing with our editor has been read over 350,000
times. We believe this partnership has real potential not only for us but
also for the wider communities of Science and Technology Studies and the
history of science and technology. It's a chance to bring the sober and
deep knowledge and insights of these traditions to a wider public.

Please let us know if you have any questions. And shoot us ideas!!!! We'd
love to get your work out there.

Lee (and Andy)
