Friends and Colleagues -

I thought I could bring to your attention the new episode of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering podcast “Create the Future,” hosted by engineer and longtime Maintainers friend Guru Madhavan (National Academy of Engineering) featuring former NYC deputy commissioner Pam Elardo and me.

We get our hands dirty discussing sanitation and what happens in a world without maintenance. As Guru puts it, sanitation is the “Other AI” going all the way back to the Indus Valley with the engineering origins of public health.

Available on Apple <https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-future-of-sanitary-engineering/id1473202958?i=1000658974263>, Spotify <https://open.spotify.com/episode/2enZGixEoPdjHP73eN343o>, and all other platforms. (26 mins)

Guru’s recent book Wicked Problems: How To Engineer A Better World <https://www.amazon.com/Wicked-Problems-Engineer-Better-World/dp/0393651460/ref=sr_1_1> is a highly recommended read and features Pam Elardo and significantly builds on and expands the work of the Maintainers Network. Here is a recent featured review in Nature <https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-024-01519-1>.

Thanks,

Andy
