The Maintainers — this comes from music, but the maintenance question
is literal.

SCALED ALPS just released a 16-track record whose canonical object now
exists across masters, metadata, a CD in a cardboard slipcase, web
pages, track graphics, store/distribution systems and all the ordinary
files that begin decaying or drifting the moment a release becomes
“finished.”

The record itself leans visually on technical documentation and
obsolete interface language, which makes the post-release problem
unusually visible: at what point does releasing an artwork become
maintaining an infrastructure?

Your community’s insistence that maintenance is substantive cultural
work rather than the boring phase after invention made this seem like
a legitimate specimen from outside the usual repair/infrastructure
world.
