Hey guys,
One last reminder that if you want to participate in the acting workshop
this summer-* email Bethany*! Details are below.
Have a great weekend!
Julia
*DeBaun's SUMMER ACTING WORKSHOP is now accepting students. To be sure you
get a spot, please write soon.*
- Open to all Stevens community members, including current students, alumni,
staff & faculty.
- Free of charge.
- Takes place Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7-10pm (with flexibility on
leave time for folks with day jobs).
- Dates: Weds May 31 through Weds July 5
- Performance: the class culminates with two Scene Presentation nights,
open to the public, on Friday & Saturday July 7 & 8, 8pm at DeBaun (free)
- Teacher: Bethany Reeves
- Covered in the course: basic instrument work (body/voice/imagination),
playing actions, character building. Some of this is via independent
exercises; some is within the context of scene study.
- Scene material: generally, scenes for the final performances will
be chosen from the modern theatre repertoire (anything from
Ibsen/Chekhov/Strindberg forward). This may include older classics of
modern drama and/or probably-will-eventually-be-considered-classics from
more recent years.
- Requirements:
- A commitment to really digging in and challenging yourself in order
to build your craft as an actor.
- *Those who have never yet acted - or very little - and are up for
an adventure are absolutely welcome!*
- "Commitment" includes coming to all or most of the M/W classes
(please write to me about specific & can't-avoid-them conflicts.
I usually
figure something out).
- Commitment also may mean braving some dramatic challenges - and
challenge can feel risky!
- Challenge can* also* involve* careful *reading of one or more plays
towards working on your scene with real integrity. You'll need to find
your play online, purchase it (Drama Books on 40th just east of 8th
in NYC is a good resource), or hit a well-stocked library (i.e., the
Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center, NYC).
*PLEASE REPLY TO BETHANY REEVES* at breeves@ stevens.edu (do NOT hit "reply
to all") if you would like to participate. Thank you!
This summer's play production, "PROOF," was cast a few months ago and will
feature alumni Colin Gliech, Ben LaGue, Liz Lamb, and Molly Molino.
Performances of this Pulitzer Prize-winning play are on Friday and Saturday
July 14 & 15.
Cheers,
Bethany Reeves
