Esteemed Lords and Vassals,
Are you ready guys? You'd better get ready, because this week we're
watching Sengoku Basara, a ridiculously action-packed anime about
Japan's Warring States period. The Warring States, or Sengoku period,
began with the Onin War in 1467 AD, and eventually ended with the
unification of power under the Tokugawa shogunate in 1603. All spoilers
aside, the anime itself is based on a video game about the Sengoku
period produced by Capcom. It's kind of like Dynasty Warriors, but based
on Japanese rather than Chinese history. For whatever reason though,
when the first installment was brought to the states in 2005, it was
localized as 'Devil Kings' and all references to Japanese History were
replaced with a generic fantasy storyline. This turned out to not be
such a great idea, and no more Sengoku Basara games were released in the
US until 2010.
Anyway, if you're interested in feudal Japanese history and/or
over-the-top, action-packed anime, put your guns on and head over to
Burchard 118 this Friday, January 27th, at 9PM!
See you there,
Chris Bowers
Vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi
