Hi there,

I attended the meet up on April 20th in 156 5th Avenue, New York City. The
topic of this meet is “What's new in Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus)”.

Daniel Westervelt from Canonical, he will talking to us about Ubuntu 16.04
and what’s new in Ubuntu 16.04. I learned a lot of things which is new
release.

Open ZFS has those features:
(1)snapshot backups
(2)copy-on-write clones
(3)integrity checking
(4)automatic repairs
(5)efficient compression

This is the first distribution actually ship ZFS file system not only to
ship it but also support it. And it is not shipped as DKMS module, as a
binary model so the box you can run as it has file system.

LXD provides machine containers. In this meet up, they described exactly the
difference between LXD and others like Docker.

Application containers like Docker:
(1)host a single process on a filesystem
(2)Machine container from LXD
(3)boot a full OS on their filesystem

But,LXD container machines can host Docker and Docker 1.10 can fully
integrated with LXD.

Fast openstack with nova-lxd
basically allows people to use containers instead of KVM ports machines to
get higher density and better security out of the box.

Baremetal OpenStack secured:
(1)workloads deployed on bare metal contained by LXD
(2)more secure:
  (i)No bios level access
(ii)containers wrapped in app armor profiles
(3)live migration of workloads
(4)pause, snapshot, restart
(5)ZFS back containers for super fast performance

Snappy has those features:
(1)transactional updates
(2)application confinement
(3)familiar ubuntu app development
