Hello everyone,

I am relatively new to this listserv. I believe my research into the United
States Light-House Establishment will contribute significantly to the
maintainers in the future. My paper at SHOT explores the relationship
between engineers and democracy. It mentions the government's neglect of
maintaining the coastal lights, but also the idea that maintenance was the
stuff of the less formally educated. My session is the first session on the
conference program.

T1: "Engineering and Democracy" Organized by Andrew Butrica. My paper is
titled "Promoting Fresnel in America: The Army Corps of Topographical
Engineers and the De-democratization of Science in the Nineteenth Century
United States."

Looking forward to meeting several new colleagues.

James
